Purl Diva is having its second annual De-Stash, Do-Good charity event Saturday, September 27th, so please take a fresh and honest look at your stashes and ask yourself, "Will I ever actually use that?" Last year we had so many wonderful donations of yarn from so many wonderful people, and we helped Marlena raise close to $1000 for Alzheimers research. This year, with the cost of heating oil as high as it is, and Maine winters being what they are, I've decided to have heating assistance for low income Mainers as the focus. All proceeds will be going to the Keep ME Warm Fund. According to their website, Operation Keep ME Warm is a public and private collaboration aimed to help Mainers cope with the rising cost of fuel. The money collected will be distributed to local agencies helping citizens with heating assistance. This fund was initiated by Governor Baldacci as an expansion of the Operation Keep ME Warm volunteer effort.
For those of you who missed last year's De-Stash. Do-Good event, this is how it works:
You go through your stash and find yarn that you'll never knit in this lifetime.
You drop off (or mail) the yarn to the shop.
On the day of the event, the yarn will be available for sale on the Purl Diva Porch at 50% off the manufacturer's suggested retail price.
Cash or checks only please. (Note: There's an ATM at the Brunswick Diner, which is 2 minutes away by foot).
All $ proceeds will go to the selected charity. Any remaining yarn will be donated to the Salvation Army or Goodwill.
Please note the following requests:
Natural fibers only. (Blends are OK.)
Unused/unopened skeins only.
Please ensure that the donated skeins are clean and fresh-smelling.
Of course, the De-Stashing ends up being more along the lines of a Re-Stashing, as yarn donors come on the day of the event to fill the new gaps in their yarn bins, but it is all for a good cause!
I wish I lived in Maine! It's a beautiful place, but the yarn!!!!

I was going to look for some stash to put up on my blog for sale for the Memory Walk, but if I'm honest with myself, I just don't have the time this year! Instead I'll look for some for you! I'd offer to help out on the porch, but I'm going to be in Texas visiting my BFF.
