The shop was closed yesterday but I was there, organizing shelves for some new shipments that will be arriving. (More on that later.) I heard the distinct rumble of the UPS truck as a delivery was made across the street, so I went outside and asked Mr. UPS if he had any deliveries for me.
Indeed he did! He had a box of lovelies from Classic Elite. The box contained Fresco (wool/baby alpaca/angora sportweight) and Silky Alpaca (silk/alpaca laceweight).
Let's discuss the Fresco first.
As much as I love the Beaumont hats, I must confess that it was Hannah Fettig's Lightweight Pullover that prompted me to pick up the phone to order Fresco. That sweater makes me want to lounge on a couch with a cup of tea and a good book. Check out the Ravelry page HERE.
I could go on and on about how lovely Fresco is, but since Clara Parkes already reviewed it thoroughly, I'll just encourage you to click HERE to read her thoughts on the yarn.
Next up is Silky Alpaca. This is one of those "one touch, and you're a goner" yarns, because many balls of this yarn have been taken home after customers gave them a little pat. Each ball has 460 yards, so a little goes a long way. I used it with another yarn when I made the Pashmina Shrug for my friend Sam, and it provided the touch of luxury necessary to convert a simple shrug into something quite elegant.
(OK, so perhaps my dirty dancing friends aren't elegant, but the shrug was!)
As you might recall from a post last summer, Cherylyn chose this yarn for her beautiful Whisper Cardigan (another design by Hannah Fettig).
This yarn was also used in Jared Flood's Bridgewater Shawl. Click HERE to see that.
As you can see, you've got lots of options!
The Fresco looks delightfully soft, perhaps a good yarn for Connie Chang Chinchio's Sabbatical, to which I keep returning with covetous desire, even though there are many other projects queued ahead of it.
Also, I love the drape of Cherylyn's Whisper--it's a completely different effect from the Malabrigo lace that I used.

I still find it so amusing that Hannah Fettig was my wedding photographer and five years later I stumble across her knitting book! I was so surprised! I got it for Christmas and I can't wait to knit up some of the great patterns!
I'll have to check out some of the Silky Alpaca next time I'm in the shop, it looks beautiful! I'm still in awe of the Karabella Aurora 8 yarn I'm knitting with. Granted I'm quite inexperienced with yarn but it's my favorite so far.
